FAY PHASE FILTER MODULATION

FAY is an all analog, all discrete, phase/filter modulation with grit..
Resonating, pulsing, psychedelic swirls aplenty!

A vibratoesque voltage controlled LFO controls modulation depth and a separate notch filter.... Basically, the modulation modulates the modulation's depth and a filter control in series. This is fed into a responsive, dynamic gain circuit with switchable clipping for cleaner/grittier sounds.

Fay can be subtle and clean. Used with reverbs and delays you can lose yourself in multilayered haunting swells. Alternatively engage Grit, crank the controls, and create industrial armageddon... Somewhere in the middle you'll find warm intergalactic lounge funk, trippy toytown jazz and countless other untapped genres to aid your creative mission...

• GAIN - Controls output gain level. With GRIT (clipping diodes) engaged there will be dynamic low to mid gain distortion, with GRAIN selected, tone will be cleaner with some grainy artifacts, and compression when turned fully clockwise.
• LEVEL - Master output volume control.
• RATE - Increases the speed of modulation. Slower speeds anti-clockwise, Faster turned clockwise.
• SPACE - With SPACE selected you can acheive slow swells. This switch can be seen as an additional speed control. The space between wave peaks is increased for super psychedelic, slow motion spiralling texture.
• SMOOTH/DEEP - A simple control for the optical depth modulation, more noticeable with SPACE control off. Deep pulsing wobble, or smooth shallow warble... You decide!
• DARK/LIGHT - Simple input buffer tone shaper. In LIGHT mode your highs are more pronounced. Bright and present. DARK mode for moody modulated night time tones. A borderline extreme low pass/presence/bright switch affair...
• GRIT/GRAIN - Switches the output gain stage clipping diodes on or off. In GRAIN position, diode clipping is lifted from the circuit. This gives cleaner tones with some transistor clipping and compression with the GAIN control maxed. In GRIT mode the clipping diodes are engaged. There will be a slight volume drop and saturated overdriven tones. With the Gain control low, the modulation will have a dynamic touch sensitive variation in distortion, with GAIN turned up... Beautiful chaos!
